Monique Schep (1958) attended the St. Joost Academy of Arts in Breda. Currently
she teaches painting, printing and mixed graphic techniques at the Institute for Art
Education De Werkschuit in Zeist. For more than 20 years she held exhibitions in
various places, in the Netherlands as well as abroad.
After being a professional photographer for 15 years she started to look for a different
form to express herself. Around 11 years ago she found this in a free form of etching
techniques. By reacting intuitively on every print layer the work grows into a spontaneous
form. Every artwork receives a variety of treatments under the press after which they are
treated with etching rollers and palette knives.
She alternates this with painting, in which she can react, create and destroy certain layers
faster than with printing. Often the theme becomes clear after several weeks of work,
expressing what she has intuitively been working on from the inside out.
